Life Credits in Education

If you found this site because you were looking for how to score credits in college for life experience, you came to the wrong place.

I’m sitting here in my house trading *again*.

… because I love it.

Many of you know that I’m a teacher.  I teach English in Japan.  The topic of trading Forex comes up alot….mainly because I like talking about it.

A typical response I get is that trading currency and stocks is ….. well….. dangerous.

My response…..    “and….?”

I find it so amusing that people can be so brainwashed into thinking that certain things are certain ways but other things are not.

Ok…..I lost you on that last statement.  I almost lost myself…so don’t worry.

To help clarify what I mean, here’s a typical response I usually give my students.

“Yes, trading stocks and currency is dangerous because as you’ve stated…..you can lose a lot of money as well as make a lot of money.  But, knowing when to buy and sell is unknown.”

In addition to the previous response I add….

“But, when you get in your car and drive down the street….is it now dangerous?  NO?  Would you let your 16 year old child get behind the wheel then?  NO?  But, I’ve been driving a car since I was 16, why not your child?  OH….because you feel like it’s dangerous for them?  Hmmm….why then do you not feel like it’s dangerous for you to get behind the wheel then?  Aha!….because you have been to school….studied and have experience at driving. ”

I agree that it is true that driving a car and trading in the financial markets is not exactly the same.  Actually, I think that driving a car is more dangerous than trading in the financial market place.

You see, I can walk out of my house and get hit by a car.  Most people would say that I’m being absurd and that it has nothing to do with the topic.  I disagree.  It’s about experience.  Again, you wouldn’t let your toddler  or maybe even 3 or 4 year old just run out of the house without your supervision, right?  Because they don’t have experience and the maturity to deal with that situation in such a manner that they won’t get hurt and if they do, will they be able to brush themselves off and continue on?

In conclusion… No matter what we do in life, job, hobbies or otherwise, we must study those topics.  You studied to drive a car.  You studied in college to get a job.  You must study the financial markets to be proficient at trading.  And when you fail, you must get back up and brush yourself off and continue on.
